Feeling behind on your goals? This gentle mid-year reflection will help you reset, refocus, and move forward with self-compassion.

This Year’s Flying – so let’s pause

I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the year! I swear the years are getting faster… We are so busy juggling work, hobbies, home tasks, or even kids, that it’s hard to take a breather.

Sometimes it can feel like a race to achieve things by a certain age, or do more, so you feel like you’re not just working.

In June, I find it a great time to reflect on the year so far and to refocus on what I want to achieve for the remainder of the year.

Reflect without Judgement

As we’re all aware, setting goals at the start of the year is a common trend. New year, a chance to start over.

However, you can start new habits, new goals or even break bad habits at any time.

To me, reflection doesn’t always mean focusing on the negativity. Take the time to be proud of yourself, no matter how big or small the moments were.

Upon reflection, ask yourself what your happiest moments were or if there was a time you were really proud of yourself. This type of reflection can help us focus on the positive aspects that happened. It’s easier to reflect on the things that didn’t go well or moments you wish you could erase.

Suppose you set yourself a goal to break a bad habit and didn’t achieve it; that’s okay. Be easy on yourself, we are all human and we all have our demises. Being aware of this habit is the first step in the right direction.

You Don’t Need Big Goals to Feel Proud

If you haven’t felt like you’ve achieved much in this half of the year, don’t feel pressure to now set huge goals. It’s okay if you’ve just been surviving, as that’s been me since January.

When setting goals or intentions, be realistic. Don’t pressure yourself into these things because you want to feel like you’ve achieved something.

Perhaps you’ve been through a challenging situation or have been hurt by someone, and for the remainder of the year, you’ll be nurturing yourself through this pain.

Whatever your goals or intentions are, reflect and reset with love. There’s also nothing wrong with setting no intentions. Perhaps this doesn’t work for you, or maybe you’re already smashing it and will continue to thrive.

Setting Realistic Goals or Intentions

If you do need inspiration for some intention prompts, I’ve created this June intention prompt. I really like these prompts because they are based on reflection, as well as on how you currently feel and how you want to feel at the end of the month. I wanted to create gentle prompts.

From the Rain to Blooming

Over the past six months, I’ve learnt that you can survive and come out the other side better than you first thought. I’ve been in the rain, and now I’m ready to bloom.

My goal is to continue being myself and also take on less. Taking a moment to pause and reflect, do I really need to do this? Am I going to burn out if I do this?

Last year was extremely busy for me, and I would like to take a break. Enjoy the present moments and the peace this will bring. I may not be achieving anything outside of work, and that’s okay. Perhaps that can be a goal for next year.

Keep shining,

Madeline
