Do you struggle with the daily grind of working and feel like it swamps your time? This post helps explain why we feel like this and how we can see the beauty of the 9-5.

You groan every morning when your alarm goes off and you slowly roll out of bed. You’re tired from yesterday’s work, and wish you could sleep in.

You feel robbed that you don’t have enough time to do what you want, and cringe knowing that this may be it for a while.

We’ve been told working is just for survival, but if we make more out of these days? What if we can make our weekdays work for us?

Reframing our Weekday Mindset

After I’d completed my first week back at work, I started to get this feeling. The early mornings and commute to work have taken their toll.

But there’s beauty in the 9-5. Work is not always given; it’s a privilege.

When you’re working, you get up with purpose. You have somewhere to go. You leave the house, meet new people and maybe develop new skills. Sometimes, having your day set isn’t a bad thing.

It can be a tough mindset if you always feel like you don’t have any free time and wish for the weekend to arrive.

However, as I learnt during unemployment, having too much time can be bad. The things you enjoy start to lose their excitement. It doesn’t feel as much as they used to.

The beauty of the 9-5 is that you cherish this time so much more. You don’t take for granted the time you have to spend on your hobbies.

Over the past week, I’ve learned that the 9-5 is a mindset. I longed for a job for months, and now I’ve finally got it. I may be tired, but I’m very fortunate, especially in this job market.

It may wear me down, but it’s helping me have a roof over my head, and it can be taken away so quickly.

Tips and Tricks for Reclaiming Your Weekdays

  • Make sure you eat well: This can really help your energy levels by the end of the day.
  • Do something for yourself each day: Setting time aside for yourself can help you feel that you’re not losing your time to your job. It can be as small as 15 minutes or an hour.
  • Create a routine that works for you: Starting your day right can set the rest of your day.

It’s hard as it can feel, but there are plenty of reasons to be grateful that we get to experience the 9 to 5 grind.

Keep shining,

Madeline
